Suspension revoked, Sri Uma Shankar IAS officer gets posting

“My final words of advice to you are educate, agitate and organize; have faith in yourself. With justice on our side I do not see how we can lose our battle. The battle to me is a matter of joy. The battle is in the fullest sense spiritual. There is nothing material or social in it. For ours is a battle not for wealth or for power. It is battle for freedom. It is the battle of reclamation of human personality”.- Babasheb.Dr.B.R.Ambedkar.

In a surprise move, the Tamil Nadu government late on Thursday revoked the suspension of dalit IAS officer C Umashankar on the charge of furnishing false information to obtain his community certificate. Umashankar, who was placed under suspension on July 21, has been posted as managing director of the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Corporation (Tansi).
A government order said that as an inquiry had already been initiated against him, the government “has considered, and revokes the suspension of C Umashankar, with effect from the afternoon of September 2, 2010”. “The
period of suspension shall be regulated on the outcome of the inquiry and disciplinary proceedings initiated against him,” it said. Sarangi new chairman of TIDCO
Chennai: The suspension of IAS official Umashankar had turned out to be politically embarrassing to the DMK regime, as several political parties and dalit organisations had rallied in his support and termed the suspension motivated and even “anti-dalit”. They linked his suspension with inconvenient questions he had raised about suspected irregularities.
Reacting to the development, Umashankar thanked the media and said credit for the victory should also go to political parties and dalit organisations. Earlier, he had given a representation to the National SC/ST Commission seeking its intervention.

Meanwhile, the government transferred environment and forests secretary Debendranath Sarangi and posted him chairman of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation. Qudsia Gandhi, now head of the Overseas Manpower Corporation, has been appointed chairperson and managing director of the Power Finance and Infrastructure Corporation. Orders regarding successors to Sarangi and Gandhi would be issued separately.
