A. Educational and other qualifications required for direct recruits.

i) 10+2 standard or 12m class pass. from recognized University or Board of
School Education or Board of Secondary Education with English as a compulsory
subject (excluding vocational streams).

(ii) Must have studied local language of the State or Union Territory of the
concerned Postal Circle or Hindi as a subject at least in Matriculation or
equivalent.

B. Age limit for direct recruits.

18-27 years (Relaxable for candidates belonging to Scheduled
Castes/Scheduled Tribes up to 5 years and for candidates belonging to Other
Backward Classes up to 3 years and for Government servants up to the age of
40 years in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Government
of India).

Note: ’I he crucial date for determining the age limit for all the candidates shall be
the closing date for receipt of applications from candidates in India (not the
closing date prescribed for those In Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh,
Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of Jammu and
Kashmir State, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi sub—division of Chamba
District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands or Laksliadweep).

Note—2 In the case of recruitment made through the Employment Exchange, the
crucial date for determining the age limit shall be the last date up to which the
Employment Exchange is asked to submit the names.

C. Pattern of examination
Paper-I

Candidates shall be subjected to an objective type Aptitude Test covering the
following subjects/topics.

Total Marks-100

(1) Part ‘A’ - 25 questions on General Knowledge, which may
include questions on current events, sports, history, geography,
basic economics, general polity, Indian Constitution, science
environment etc. — 25 marks

(2) Part ‘B’ — 25 questions of Mathematics of matriculation
standard which may cover number system, simplification,
decimals. fractions. simple and compound interest, percentage,
average, profit and loss, discount, mensuration, time and work,
time and distance etc 7 25 marks

(3) Part ‘C’ , 25 questions on English, which may cover grammar
(propositions, adverbs, conjunction, direct/indirect,
singular/plural, tense, anonyms/synonyms etc.) — 25 marks

(4) Part ‘D’ — 25 marks on Reasoning and Analytical Ability. —
25 marks

The total duration of the Aptitude Test will be two hours.

The candidates are required to obtain marks as under for being
considered for further selection process:

I. Minimum Marks: Parts A/B/C/D—Minimum 10 marks by 00
candidates, 8 marks by SC/ST candidates and 9 marks by OBC candidates in

each part.

II. Minimum aggregate marks— For OC candidates 40%, for SC/ST
33% and for OBC candidates 37%.

Paper-ll
Computer/Typing Test

Test shall be of the duration of 30 minutes (15 minutes each for Typing and Data
Entry) consisting of (i) one passage of 450 words in English or 375 words in
Hindi to be typed with a minimum speed of 30/25 words per minute and (ii) Data
Entry or some figures and letters each carrying equal marks.

Qualification Marks: Computer/Typing Test will be of qualifying nature
with minimum of 40% marks to be secured by DC candidates, 33% marks

by SC/ST candidates and 37% marks by OBC candidates.
D. Selection process
i. All the eligible candidates shall be called for the Aptitude test.

ii. No weightage of marks secured by the candidates in 10+2 or 12th class
will be given while preparing the merit list.

iii. Candidates numbering five times the number of vacancies in each
category is. OC, OBC. SC and ST for each Circle shall be declared
qualified for Computer Test based on the marks secured by them in the
Aptitude test.

iv. A common merit list for the whole Circle shall be prepared on the basis
of the marks obtained by the candidates in the Aptitude Test subject to the
condition that they have qualified the Computer Test.

E. Allocation of the successful candidates

Candidates shall be allowed to apply for all allied cadres of Postal
Assistant / Sorting Assistant, in various Divisions where the vacancies
exist, Therefore, the Circles, while notifying the vacancies shall indicate
the vacancies reported by the various Divisions of all the Cadres of Postal
Assistant / Sorting Assistant and ask the candidates to indicate their
preferences for allocation to one or more than one Cadre and Division.

The candidates Will be allocated the Cadre and Division as per their
preference based on their position in the merit list and availability of
vacancy. Such candidates who are not able to get the allocation in any of
the Cadres/ Divisions of their preference because the candidates above
them in the merit list had to be allocated the Cadres/Division(s) preferred
by them, such candidates shall be allocated the Cadre/Division where the
vacancres exist. However, the candidates will have to give an undertaking
that in the event of their not getting the post in the Cadre/Division of their
preference they are willing to accept the appointment in any
Cadre/Division. Regarding the candidates, who do not indicate their
preference ,it will be presumed that they have equal preference for all the
Cadres/Divisions and shall be allocated the Cadre/Division where the
vacancies exist.


Postman and Mail guard

 REVISED PATTERN AND SYLLABUS FOR EXAMINATION TO FILL UP THE POSTS OF POSTMAN AND MAIL GUARD BY DEPARTMENTAL PROMOTION AND DIRECT RECRUITMENT.


Sir/Madam,
It has been decided with the approval of competent authority to revise the pattern and syllabus for examination for filling up of the posts of Postman and Mail Guard by:
(i)         Limited Departmental Competitive Examination for promotion from amongst Multi     Tasking Staff
                  (ii)        Direct Recruitment from amongst Gramin Dak Sevaks
                  (iii)       Direct Recruitment from Open Market
2.         The revised pattern and syllabus for examination is indicated in the Annexure.
3.         It is requested that the revised pattern and syllabus for examination maybe brought to the notice of all concerned.
4.         The date for holding the examination(s) will be communicated separately by DE Section.

Pattern and Syllabus for Examination to fill up the Posts of Postman and Mail Guard by promotion on the basis of Limited Departmental  Competitive Examination by promotion from amongst Multi Tasking Staff  and direct recruitment from amongst GDS and from Open Market.
I. Candidates shall be subjected to an Aptitude Test of the level of 10th class   matriculation covering the following subjects/topics:

Part '8' - 25 marks -25 questions of Mathematics - Multiple Choice Questions

       (ii)        25 marks -Regional language*- Objective Type/Multiple Choice Questions
* Where the regional language is also English the Part 'C' shall comprise  only one segment on English langiuage of 50 marks, consisting of 50  questions of objective type/Multiple Choice Questions.
II. DURATION OF EXAMINATION:
90 minutes
III. QUALIFYING MARKS:
a.       Parts A and B- Minimum 10 marks for OC, 8 marks for SC/ST and  9 marks for OBC* candidates in each part.

*           Not applicable for filling up posts by Limited Departmental Competitive  Examination as there is no reservation for OBC employees while filling up posts by promotion.
