Irulas voice grievances

Over 200 members of the Irula Snake Catchers Industrial Co-operative Society functioning at the Crocodile Bank in Vadanemmeli, gathered outside the office of the Commissioner and Director of Industries and Commerce on Thursday to voice their grievances.

The group, including men and women, assembled in the Ezhilagam complex here around 2 p.m. and raised slogans. “Our members have no work for the last one year as the authorities don't accept snakes anymore, stating that they have accumulated venom extracted from our earlier catch. The snakes we catch are occasionally accepted these days and we are underpaid for it,” said a representative..

“The authorities have promised to find an amicable solution,” a member said.
