The State Government on Sunday notified the constitution of a committee headed by former Madras High Court Judge M. Maruthamuthu to examine the various issues relating to charges of large scale appropriation of lands assigned to the panchama community by non-scheduled caste people.
Suggest measures
The committee, also comprising former bureaucrats I. V. Maivannan and V. Karuppan, and the Land Administration Commissioner, will suggest measures within the legal framework for restoring the ownership of panchami lands to the original allottees. An official release said the committee was formed in response to the representations the Government had been receiving about the illegal transfer of ownership and encroachment of these lands by changing title deeds and violating norms.
